Fat 2 Fit Show #12 - Buy Yourself A Fitness Gift
This is the Special Holiday Show!
Christmas is now past, and perhaps you didn’t get all the fitness products you had hoped for. Here is our top 12 list of gifts that you could buy for yourself.
1. Podrunner Podcast - it’s free, hour long music mixes. Each one is designed to match a certain heart rate. For example, if you want an intense workout, choose a music mix that will match your heart rate at 170 bpm.
2. MP3 Player - not only for listening to podcasts, but also music tracks that will get you to move! You don’t need an iPod, any MP3 player will do.
3. Large 12 month dry-erase marker calendar - use this to plan out your goals and keep track of your fitness successes.
4. Workout Arm Band - For your new MP3 player. You can’t just hold the player in your hand while running. An arm band will hold your MP3 player in place while keeping your hands free to workout.
5. Fitness Ball - Both the small and large versions of the fitness balls are great, especially when accompanied with a DVD to help you get the most out of the ball.
6. Shoes - How to buy the right athletic shoe. The most overlooked, but very important item. Proper running shoes for walking and running, cross trainers for going to the gym and doing aerobics.
7. Yoga Mat - For those looking to get into Yoga, you’ll probably need a mat. Carpet burns aren’t fun.
8. The Local Rental Shop - before you buy any large piece of fitness equipment, try renting for a month or two to see if you will really enjoy and use it. It will probably cost you the same monthly as a gym membership, but you won’t be saddled paying off something you don’t use if you don’t like it.
9. Adjustable Weight Bench - Incline, bench press, leg press, with the right set of free weights and an adjustable bench, you can get quite the workout without going to the gym. Pair the adjustable dumbbells with a small bench.
10. Body Fat Scale - body fat percentage is much more important than your weight. These scales will tell you your weight and body fat percentage and a whole lot more.
11. Adjustable Dumbbells - Dumbbells that easily adjust from one weight to the next. They come in one nice neat package.
12. Garmin Forerunner GPS Watch - Track your walking, running, bike rides, inline skating, etc. with the use of GPS technology. It will tell you your speed, heart rate, elevation, pace, etc. Once you get back home, you can import the information from the watch into a free program called Sport Tracks. This will link to Google Earth maps and it will graph and track every possible about your workout. For example, how fast were you moving on that big hill, what was your heart rate, and how did it compare to all of your other runs that went up that hill.

Hello, thanks a lot for all podcasts, really, but I wanted to applaud your work in the fitness gift podcast. You got me thinking more about why I haven’t been willing to dish our more money for some new running shoes, got my Forerunner 201 synced to the SportTracks software, and I got the new Podrunner podcast and used it with my wife as we went for a leisurely (135 BPM) walk that ended up being 4 miles!
Thanks a lot!
Jose » That’s awesome, keep us updated on your progress. Also, we read your comment on this week’s show, so be sure to listen for it.
Thanks for the comment.

I want to second the armband for your mp3 player of choice. Its wonderful! In addition to using it while running/walking/working out its great for doing anything around the house that you need both hands for. I routinely use mine at work (fyi: I work in a lab doing many repetitive motions and sometimes without a radio or other people in the room, my ipod is a lifesaver!). I got many strange looks at first as people thought it was some kind of heart monitor but after explaining what it was, I get more looks of envy.
Just discovered your podcast/blog and have been playing catchup trying to listen to everything! Great job guys!
