Fat 2 Fit Show #25 - Choosing A Great Gym
Welcome to Season Two of Fat 2 Fit Radio. You might notice a few changes to our format, and we hope that you approve!
Choosing a great gym or fitness facility can be just like getting married. You need to make sure that you don’t just commit to the first one you come across. In many cases, it can be a very long term commitment. Some people end up getting locked into a 2 or 3 year financial commitment and then never end up using their membership for a variety of reasons.
There are many gyms out there each competing for you. With a little bit of research, you will most likely be able to find one that will offer everything that you are looking for. We offer practical tips and suggestions of what to do and what to look for when you are trying to choose a gym. The bottom line, is that you want to find a facility that you will feel comfortable working out in and that will be convenient for you. Of course there will always be compromises. The ‘perfect’ gym may be farther away than what you would like, for example, but you need to find a place that you will ACTUALLY go to on a regular basis.
In our Web Report, Russ found a great piece that listed simple and practical tips of how to eat healthy at work. Jeff found a few articles that dealt with the controversial law being proposed in Mississippi that would ban obese people from restaurants. We definitely had a few things to say about that.
In our email section we answered an email that dealt with Basal Metabolic Rate and how to calculate how much you should be eating when you are losing weight. We haven’t covered this in quite a few months, so it is a good refresher for all.

You guys are awesome. I missed you. You were gone just one week and I missed you. That is a sign that you are doing something terrific. I know this is a hobby and I can only imagine how much time you put into such a professional and polished product. So I just wanted to thank you.
Also an idea for a show — weight training. It’s value in a weight loss program and how to get the most of it. Here are my questions.
How much weight is the right amount?
Is it good to be sore after a workout?
When do you increase reps. When do you increase weight?
What else should I know to make weight training a part of getting healthy?
Hi Laura,
Thanks for the kinds words. We discussed why you should lift weights on episode #9 (http://www.fat2fitradio.com/archives/68). We will be covering more on weight lifting in upcoming shows.
Keep listening,
Russ
