The new year is an obvious time to turn over a new leaf.  Whether it’s quitting smoking, drinking or the ever popular lose weight, there’s no denying that the resolutions are flying.  If you took a look out the window this morning you might have seen more people than normal walking or even jogging.  The gyms are also more crowded than ever this time of year, but if you stick it out until March most of those people will quit and you ‘ll get the gym to yourself again.  Why?  Most of them won’t have set goals for themselves and therefore will fail at following through with their resolutions.  They most certainly didn’t listen to this podcast in particular to learn how to set goals.  Jeff goes it alone on the 5th installment of the most important show of the year, the 5th Annual Goals Show.

    Happy New Year! I want to thank you for this show. I’ve been listening to your show for about a year, and I’ve heard you tell us to do the “I must complete my weight loss and fitness goals because if I don’t…” exercise in the past, but I never actually paused the show to do it. I always figured I had enough motivation already.

    Last year, I trained and completed my first half marathon, but only lost – and kept off – about 6 lbs. This year, still at 5’3 and about 168 lbs, I am “upping” my weight loss and fitness goals. At your urging, I paused the show for about 20 minutes after you told us to do this exercise again, and I wrote down my 5 personal reasons. I always knew these reasons in my head, but something about seeing it written down made me realize how vitally important it is for me to succeed this year. Writing down that “I must complete my weight loss and fitness goals because if I don’t, I will forever feel like a failure when I look at my (future) wedding photos” is much more powerful than “I need to lose weight for my wedding.” Now when the cravings for pizza or fries inevitably strike, I can visualize the shame I will feel in August if I fail again.

    I have eight months to reach my goal weight of 135 lbs, and I know I *have* to and *will* do it this year and keep it off. I have a personal training schedule, a running routine, and specific food plans. No excuses! Thank you so much for this wonderful podcast. I always look forward to listening to your new shows!

    Guys,

    Great goal podcast. I am a “newer” listener and I know you may have covered it in earlier podcasts…BUT, you mentioned that you are almost “obsessed” about freezing lunches ahead of time. I would love to know what you are freezing?

    As someone who has lost 100 lbs over the past year I have about 30 more to go, and I am struggling with these last lbs. because I need to re-vamp my nutrition and of course workout intensity. But any new little ideas would be great as far as my nutrition goes. Basically, what are you freezing? THANK YOU! – David Hunt

    No, the feed hasn’t changed. I’d like to tell you why it’s not working, but unfortunately cannot. I’d suggest unsubscribing and then re-subscribing. That may force the software to re-download the feed.

    Fantastic show! I’ve already listened to it twice. My plan is coming together, still evolving but your show changed my goals. I asked myself why isn’t 50 lbs in a year a good goal. 1lb a week doesn’t sound like much but it’s easily attainable. Thanks!!!
