Mobile Fitness Sites

We do tend to go on about iPhone and iPod Touch applications on the show when we find them. Jeff and I both have iPhones now and it’s natural that we talk about what we’re using. But there are other resources out there on the internet if you have some other phone with an Internet browser. Any of these sites can be used on an Android based phone, Palm WebOS phones, Windows Mobile or any WAP browser you have on your phone.
First one is actually Daily Burn. As well as the iPhone app, they maintain a mobile web site that is available from any browser, including those on your phone. It has most, if not all the functionality to record your foods and exercise just like from the full web site and the app. Don’t let the URL fool you, it will work on your phone. It’s located at http://dailyburn.com/iphone.
Calorie King has a mobile version of their site that you can track calories on as well. It supports iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Palm and Windows Mobile. With the mobile version of their site you can look up the calories of your food, hopefully before you consume it. Their database looks pretty extensive and it gives a nutritional breakdown for the foods. You can just visit the site, http://www.calorieking.com, with your mobile phone to access the site.
You’ve all heard me talk about Livestrong, 1) because of the iPhone app, and B) because of the great food database that backs the site called, The Daily Plate. Well that same database is available on your mobile phone by going to http://www.livestrong.com/m. It’s not even close to as good as the App, but it does fill that purpose of finding out how many calories you are eating.
We mention SparkPeople quite a bit on the show. They have a lot of good tools at their website. Included in those tools is a mobile calorie and cardio tracker. It’s at http://mobile.sparkpeople.com and it is quite good. The search function for foods is not the best and the fewer words you put in to find your food, the better. The cardio tracker works well. Search for your exercise of choice and then enter the number of minutes you did that exercise.
If you have another suggestion for a mobile site, leave a comment send us a link so we can check it out.

I have been using MyFitnessPal.com since July, and it’s helped me lose 40 pounds! I looked at a few online calorie diaries but found this one to be the best fit for me.
I also like the spark people one too.

I’ve been using MyFitnessPal too, with some success, although I’m concerned about the daily calories goal it sets – it’s about 300 calories a day less than the calculator on the Fat2Fit site and under my BMR – now I’m not sure which calorie goal to stick to.
