Fat 2 Fit #77 – The Biggest Loser
TweetWritten on October 17, 2009 – 6:00 am | by Russ Turley
The Biggest Loser is watched by millions of people every week. We’ve mentioned previously on the show that The Biggest Loser creates unrealistic expectations for those starting a weight loss program. Despite that, people find the show motivating. But has that show helped or hurt the obesity epidemic? Jeff has an in depth review of this extremely popular show in this week’s Feature.
In our Email and Comments section of the show, James writes in with an awesome question. He’s lost over 100 lbs. and now has 13.5% body fat but he’s got a problem. He has some extra skin. After the hard work of getting down to his goal weight, he still doesn’t want to take off his shirt in public. Should James get surgery to remove this excess skin? Ed made a post in the support group over at Fat2FitSupport.com asking how to figure out how many calories are in a recipe he makes. The listeners and users of the group have a great answer. By the way, our group, YOUR group, over at Traineo now has over 500 members. It’s an awesome resource. We also had many responses to the Travelers of Size show. Many are from listeners that were once in Steve‘s shoes but have now lost the weight. Surprisingly, no one was too sympathetic to Steve’s situation. Let’s agree to call it a cautionary tale, shall we?

Homework:
We always talk about setting goals and writing them down, but many people get caught up in always looking forward. This homework this week is to start writing down all of your successes. Do it just like you do your goals, but do it in the reverse. What are some things that you have accomplished in the last year that you are proud of with your fitness and weight loss goals? The last 3 months, last week and even today. Keeping track of your successes can be another way to keep yourself motivated and help with the momentum.

Hi Guys, I love your Podcasts and listen to them regularly!
I want to thank you for the light you shed on ‘The Biggest Loser’ and how unrealistic their style of weight-loss is for real people. I wish that they had a season where all of the contestants were within 50 pounds of their goal weight and were already living active, healthy lives.
I believe then we would learn something about real weight loss and not so much about how quickly water and junk food pounds come off.
Listening forward for more to come!
