Fat 2 Fit #61 – Health PSAs of the Past

Written on April 11, 2009 – 3:38 pm | by Russ Turley

Time for TimerFor our Feature Topic this week, we found some wonderful public service announcements from our youth.  Do you remember Time for Timer?  How about The Chopper?  We play 13 of the most memorable health PSAs and give you our take on why they were important or how they went wrong.

This week on the email and comments section of the show, Jeff has the longest answer to date in response to Annie’s question about fasting.

On the Web Report, Jeff goes over the article he wrote recently on Fat 2 Fit Radio about his dog losing 11 lbs. in a year without dieting.  Russ has once again decided to kick the Diet Coke habit, this time in response to a movie called The Beautiful Truth.

Homework:
I was wondering, how many of our listeners know exactly how they would like to look at their goal weight. The homework this week is to find pictures in magazines or on the internet of people who’s appearance you would like to look like.  Don’t use magazine covers, because everyone is notoriously photoshoped and even those celebrities can’t look like their own magazine covers in real life.  Cut out those pictures or print them out to keep yourself reminded of where you want to go. Don’t dream too small, maybe you can’t attain that ultimate goal in 6 months, but anything is attainable given enough time, effort and dedication.

Hey, guys… I think I started listening to you guys since your second show and have been following your show religiously… And as a past endurance athlete, I know what to and not to do… BUT I do get tempted to take short cuts, especially right before a special occasion. So, right before this past show, I actually did reseach on line about detox and fasting for the same reason as the person that wrote in… then I heard your show and WOW, I totally thought Jeff was talking directly to me! It made me realize that I can not take short cuts and need to just follow the “plan.” EAT CALORIES OF YOUR DESIRED BODY WEIGHT!!! So, thank you for your show and really do appreciate all the effort and time that you two put into it. It really does show!!!
P.S. Russ – saw your pictures on facebook, you are looking great! Keep it up! You will look awesome at your high school graduation!!

Russ – buy some generic canned sparkling water and some yummy pomegranate/blueberry juice or whatever you like. Mix 1/4 cup of the juice with the sparkling water and you have your own pop. Minimal calories that you can control, you can control the sweetness AND you get vitamins, too!

Thanks for the tip Laura. I’ll try that.

    Also, I’m digging your blog.

Thanks for commenting Susan; what took you so long? :)

I’m personally done with short cuts. I tried them, they didn’t help.

Reunion, not graduation. 20 years is a long time.

I so remember those PSAs. Unfortunately, that was like 25 – 30 years ago… :(

    Hey Jeff

I’ve never heard of your celery treat…
Maybe you meant Celery with peanut butter and raisons? Ants on a Log. Those are yummie :-)
