@Jennifer: Thanks for commenting. I just read an article on saving gas as well. Parking in the first spot you find versus driving around the parking lot trying to find the closest space will save you money as well as burn a couple more calories.

I can't remember where I heard this but it was on a similar view. We have gotten used to our electronics and don't do us much manual things as we used to so we are not burning as much energy. The example I remembered is the electric mixer; women used to have a lot of arm muscels because they mixed everything by hand. Since learning of this I do more manual things not only in the kitchen but around the house as well. I was also a member of weight watchers for a little while and they counted house work as exercise because at least you are not in front of the tv and you are moving. Another thing that I do is when I am straining up the house and something needs to go upstairs or downstairs instead of making a pile I will take that one item and the next time I find somehting I will take it right away. That way I am going up and down the stairs more and getting a little more movement out of my day. I have heard of the 10,000 step program just recently. I put my podomitore on and realized how little I move around in the day because at work I use a computer and don't have to get up as much, but will work on it.
