Fat 2 Fit Show #17 – Fitness Scams Prey on Desperate Dieters
TweetWritten on January 31, 2008 – 11:23 pm | by Jeff Ainslie

If you have ever wondered which fitness product scam or diet scam is the best – they are all equally full of crap and a waste of money. We discuss all of the worthless items that seem to be advertised everywhere. They all seem to offer quick weight loss and incredible results. How is it possible that these obvious false claims don’t end up with someone going to jail? We talk about Kevin Trudeau who is the King of Scams and has been fined multiple times by multiple States and the FTC for all of his dishonest advertisements. We also offer some practical advice so that you don’t end up getting sucked into the sensational claims of these products.
Jeff’s news items dealt with a study that showed that some people are better off not dieting than going on a continuous cycle of yo-yoing with their weight and a seductively simple new diet gimmick. Russ found an article where a person is going on the “Super Size Me Diet” to lose weight. The catch is, he is going to exercise at the same time. His second news item dealt with Doctors who do not want to treat people who are overweight or smoke. He also found a very motivational YouTube video that chronicled a 77 lb weight loss journey.

I’m not sure if this has ever been addressed, although I have listened to all the shows in their entirety, but one thing about the lifestyle change that I think is important to recognize is moderation. While we have talked about moderation, there are many of us that are almost food addicts, and certain foods will even trigger a binge. The problem with saying no entirely to these foods is, unless one chooses a 12 step group or the like to help support this choice, it is nearly impossible to stay away entirely from these foods. I almost feel like one HAS to have these in their diet, even once a day if the person is badly addicted or otherwise craving these foods. Everyone has their food that they just cannot live without and it seems so incredibly unrealistic to avoid these foods entirely, or even trying to add only one cheat a week. Particularly Americans, where these instant gratification foods are the norm, it is just an absolute necessity to add these foods to your diet. I’m not specifying foods because they are different for each person. I would suggest a person find the foods they absolutely love, mete out portions or measure the calories and budget them into their daily or weekly calorie intake. I think that is what will separate a lifestyle change from a diet.
Just my 2 cents. It would be really cool if you could air this!!
Thanks guys for your hard work!
