hi jeff (and russ)

i was listening to eps#14 and you mentioned that you eat a big bowl of popcorn as a snack. this realy encouraged me as i make this my regular after work snack. it slows me down before dinner and keep me from chewing off my arm.

i sometimes add flavoured salt or tobasco sause to spice things up. it was nice to know i was moving in the right direction with my food choices.

thanks for the podcast

KK » To add to what Jeff wrote, on my prior podcast, Fat guy Radio, I did quite a few posts about Diet Coke. There was even a podcast that I did completely on the stuff. Diet Coke being my vice, it pertains to diet drinks in general. Here's the search to click on:

http://www.fatguyradio.com/?s=diet+coke

That will get you all the articles that I linked to and the podcast where I discuss them. Numerous articles called Aspartame poison. Also, supposedly, the sweetness that the Aspartame provides actually creates an insulin response that stores fat. Also, supposedly, the sweetener interferes with the body's ability to be satisfied, you don't feel full after eating. There are a lot of articles on diet drinks, but do your own research. Follow the link above to start.

My advice, give up the stuff.

Here are the basic ingredients of Diet Dr. Pepper:

Carbonated water, caramel color, aspartame, phosphoric acid, artificial and natural flavors, sodium benzoate

There isn't really natural wholesome ingredients in there... I understand where you are coming from because I am in the process of giving up Diet Coke. The big worry is the aspartame - it is a classic example of a "diet food" not being any sort of "health food".

You will not put on any weight by drinking a zero calorie soft drink. It is good that you have cut back to two drinks per day, and hopefully you will be able to find a better replacement in the future. I think your family is more worried about the unhealthiness of soft drinks in general with all of those un-natural ingredients.

Just remember, to stick to a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean that you have to give up things forever. Everything in moderation.

Jeff and Russ I just recently started listenig to your radio podcast, and have started making changes in my eating habits. But my family says I have to quit drinking diet dr.pepper caffine free soda to lose weight, but I am willing to cut back to just two 12oz. cans a day. I have to have my diet dr.pepper everyday to survive and be happy. Will just two a day keep me from losing my weight? KK in Tulsa (please email back thanx) PS love your show, its great motivation
