Weight Loss Scams Top the Fraud List

According to a recent Reuters article, “an estimated 4.8 million Americans bought bogus weight-loss supplements, patches, creams or other products, making fat-fighting fraud the most common scam.”
The main reason that these scams are so successful is that people are desperate to lose weight. They want the quick and easy solution that will give them instant results. Common sense dictates that “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is,” but for some reason, people’s desperation for quick fat loss overrides their common sense.
The general public is so bombarded by misleading and exaggerated claims of miraculous diets that any sort of sensible diet seems not worth-while to even attempt. I’m sure that many people continue to buy miracle diets and products just hoping that the next one will work for them. They actually delude themselves that they weren’t using the product properly or that they weren’t trying hard enough.
It is human nature to not accept the fact that they wasted their money on a scam and blame themselves for the failure. Perhaps the magic cellulite cream just didn’t work because it interacted with their moisturizing lotion, or the abdominal stimulator didn’t cause them to lose weight because they didn’t use it enough…
The weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar industry full of competition. The sexiest, miraculous and easiest solutions sell, and the realistic plans don’t.
Here is a suggestion if you have a few hundred dollars that you want to put towards a weight loss and finess goal. Hire a Dietitian for a couple hours, buy some good healthy cookbooks, buy a gym membership and hire a personal trainer for a session instead. I can guarantee that it would not be a waste of money.
